We cannot rely solely on sealing door gaps
Outdoor doors are constantly exposed to rain, dust, and temperature fluctuations. While a sealed structure can reduce water ingress, it cannot replace a ground drainage design, nor can it allow all rainwater to accumulate around the door over a long period.
Ground slope and drainage path
A clear drainage direction should be established around the entrance to prevent external surface water from flowing towards the opening. Drainage ditches, floor drains, sump pits, or other drainage facilities should be installed according to site conditions.
Assessing extreme weather
The design should take into account local conditions such as heavy rainfall, leaf littering, power outages, and drainage system malfunctions. Low-lying courtyards or terrace entrances require more conservative waterproofing and drainage solutions.
Routine inspection and maintenance
Drainage ditches and sealing surfaces should be cleaned regularly, and rust, debris, aging seals, and the control system should be inspected. Lack of maintenance over a long period will reduce rain protection.
